Yes, spring has finally begun! The birds are singing, flowers that smell amazing, the air blue sky and then enjoying a nice drink at your terrace enjoying your garden where spring comes alive.
But before enjoying your beautiful spring garden, there is some work to do. There are a few essential steps that I do every year to make my garden ready for spring.
Are you ready to spring clean your garden? Oh and at the end your will find an infographic with the summary of “How to spring clean your garden?”.
1: Mowing your lawn
The first thing to do when spring cleaning your garden is to mow the lawn. It’s the first time after winter that you mow the lawn and it is long, so you see the difference immediately and it gives in instant good feeling. Your garden looks more lovely already.
Because it’s so long my grass, I mow the lawn twice after each other.
2: Picking weeds
The second item on the list of spring cleaning your garden is to pick the weeds while they’re not grown completely. In an instant the borders of your flowerbeds and lawn look more clean and neat.
After picking the weeds my husband uses a herbicide that keep the weeds away for a long time.
3: Branch pruning
Branch pruning is the third item on the list to make your garden ready for spring. Yes, some bushes get out of hand.
Look out when you do this
pruning, because when it starts to bloom it’s already too late.
4: Planting flowers
Now it’s time for a fun part: planting new flowers. If you buy some nice fresh flowers and bushes and you plant them next to your terrace or flower beds, you will immediately get the feeling of spring and happiness.
I planted this year my Eucalyptus plant that I used in a previous video on how to make a DIY homemade spa
At the moment our garden looks like a mess because we recently renovated our house and you still see some damage to it. Otherwise, I started again my mini vegetable garden. It’s up to you, something simple is also a great way to start.
Put a nice sunny flower at your front porch, instant happiness!
5: Clean your terrace
OK, now it’s time to clean your terrace. It depends on what terrace you have on how to clean it. We have to remove the moss of our pavements.
Also at this moment our terrace is non existing right now, but that’s the project of this year to accomplish a terrace after are renovation project of the last years.
Take out your outdoor table and chairs and clean them, so you are all set for a party.
6: Clean the fences
We have a wooden fence that separates our property with the one of the neighbours and after a period of winter it becomes a lit bit green of the moss growing on it.
So each year in spring, I take a mixture of vinegar and water and scrub the fences and the moss will disappear in a couple of days. My fences will look as almost new again.
7: Wash the windows outside
If you are like me, you never washed your windows outside during the winter and fall period and they are looking dirty, real dirty.
For me spring is the exact time, to spring clean my windows, so the house looks also nice outside when I’m sitting in my garden and relax.
Yes, paint! There is always something to paint in your garden, the port of your chicken coop or the port of your garage or maybe you have wooden windows or panels at your house.
We have a wooden panel at our house as well as all the rest, so yes there is definitely something to paint for me in spring.
I do the painting myself, but you can definitely hire someone to do it professionally.
9: Check the summer appliances
It’s time to check your summer equipment!
- Clean your barbeque
- Clean the summer toys
- Check your swimmingpool
- Check your heating supplies
- Get all your decoration stuff to put outside, so the terrace and garden looks nice and cozy.
