This blogpost contains 5 essential travel apps you will need when you have a vacation abroad, that are very handy. I show them
We went hiking in Ireland in March 2019 and it was amazing. We had extremely good hiking weather at that time and no rain at all, how fabulous is that.
Thuesday 26 of March – arriving at Laragh
We were getting up really early to catch the train to Brussels airport and get on the flight to Dublin Ireland.
Very handy for digital boarding passes and messages when your flights our delayed or not.
When we landed we took the Wicklow shuttle bus (we booked in advance.) and they drove us to Laragh where we booked a bed and breakfast at Tudor Lodge B&B. We arrived around noon, dropped our bags off and we went for an afternoon hike/lunch towards Glendalough.
Officially the Wicklow route is longer, but we started at the middle, at Laragh/Glendalough.
Glendalough is a wonderful valley with amazing lakes surrounded by beautiful mountains. You will love it.
All the pictures I have taken will do no justice what so ever. In real life, it is 1000 time prettier and more intense.
At the evening we did some essential shopping, like buying drinks and snacks for on the go and we ate in a really nice restaurant The
Wednesday 27 of March – From Laragh to Roundwood
We started hiking from Laragh, passes by Glendalough to continue via Oldbridge to Roundwood.
Around 9 o’clock we started and arrived at around 3 PM in the afternoon. We ate the lunch that we brought for Tudor Lodge at Laragh. We ate also the snacks and drinks that we bought in the store the evening before at Laragh.
This was the most steep walk of our whole route.
In Roundwood, we stayed at an Air BNB that I do not recommend, so I don’t mention it here. They had really big dogs and the rooms were not clean at all. I even showered with sock on, so dirty!
We booked our bed and breakfasts with this app at peoples homes. The chat is very handy as
We arrived at the moment that they call “the sheep season”, so every dog that comes near a sheep will be put to sleep. They are very strict about that.
In the evening we walked to Roundwood Center to have dinner at Byrne and Woods and go to the store to make some lunch pack for the next day. When we were at Roundwood Center we also visited the lakes over there.
sday 28th of March – From Roundwood to Enniskerry
This was the longest walk of our route, going from Roundwood to Enniskery via Powerscourt waterfall.
This app keeps the score of who pays what and at the end of your trip it calculates your debt or what they have to pay to you. Very simple and handy.
We started walking from 8 o’clock and arrived at
When we arrived at Enniskerry, we stayed at an air BNB wit 2 lovely grandparents, they are just the best. I can’t recommend them enough. They were amazing. We were really tired when we arrived there because this walk contains more rocks and less flat ground. They invited us in the garden for a cup of tea with a mountain view, then they brought us by car to dinner and shop and they picked us up when we finished dinner.
Hiking, walking is very healthy. Have you seen my morning routine, it’s the right start for being healthy.
The day after when we want to start hiking again, they dropped us of on the Wicklow Route again, so nice. I can’t thank them enough.
The house was also very, very clean. Please stay at their BNB “SugarLoaf View” Donald and Marie are 2 lovely persons and also hikers as well.
Friday 29th of March – From Enniskerry to Marlay
park – Dublin
Marie drove us in the morning back to the Wicklow route were we hiked to Marlay park, the south of Dublin.
When we arrived there we took a cab to our Air BNB at the north of Dublin. Also this Air BNB was OK, but was not ideal to visit the city centre.
This app shows you the cabs near you. You can order immediately and see directly where he is driving and you can automatically see how much it costs beforehand.
In the evening we took
This app gives you a real time guide and overview of the public transport system like busses, trainse, subways, …
Do you know the movie “PS I Love You”, you must see this movie before you leave for this hiking trip because it is filmed in the same region and is very romantic! It will give you a different look on
Saturday 30th of March – Dublin to Howth
In the morning we were sightseeing a little bit of Dublin. But I must say that when you are hiking 4 days in the mountains, we didn’t liked Dublin anymore, it was to crowded, not much to see, … We wanted the mountains again.
So after a museum walk at Guinness and around some big buildings, we took the train to Howth to go hiking around the cliffs.
We were more at our comfort there. So we saw everything, the mountains and the city and the sea.
At Howth, I also recommend this bar “The dog house“, it will look crazy at first, but it’s so nice and weird at once. You must see it with your own eyes.
Sunday 1st of April – Going back to Belgium
We packed our things and went to the airport to take the next flight back to Belgium.
I really loved this hiking vacation. I can’t recommend it enough. This wasn’t my last hiking trip that I will book.
